Fireworks spark fire that damages water pipes in Blacksburg

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said about $300 in new water pipes owned by Blacksburg Public Works were damaged Saturday night when someone sparked a fire on Holly Ridge Road with fireworks.

A witness told police an unknown person tossed fireworks out the window of a car as it was passing his home in the 500 block of Holly Ridge Road. The fireworks sparked a fire that damaged the pipes, which were laying on the roadside.

Computers stolen

A burglar stole two laptop computers and cash from a Peachoid Road medical equipment firm sometime over the weekend, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported.

The thief or thieves broke into Radon Medical Imaging sometime between Friday night and Sunday evening through a side door. The blue and white laptop computers taken were valued at about $2,000 each. Police did not indicate what information might have been stored on them. About $200 in cash also was taken.

Home entered

A New Street woman reported to Gaffney Police someone broke into her home between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Entry was gained through a side window. The burglar(s) knocked over a television stand and two televisions beneath the window. While the home appeared to have been ransacked, police said they were told by the homeowner that nothing appeared to be missing.

Store hit by brick

Someone launched a brick at the front door of an East Frederick Street store early Sunday morning causing an estimated $500 in damage.

Police said the suspect who damaged Gaffney ABC was a 25- to 30-year-old black male, wearing a black coat with a yellow hood.

Gun stolen

A Wilkensville Highway residence was broken into early Saturday morning and the only item reported stolen was a .357 magnum handgun, according to Gaffney Police.

The thief or thieves gained entry through a window of the home in the 400 block. The blue steel handgun of unknown make was valued at about $150. Police said the window damage is estimated at $75.

Tires slashed

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported the tires of four different vehicles were slashed sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Three of the vehicles were parked in the 300 block of 8th Street. A fourth car was parked in the 100 block of West Allen Street. A total of 12 tires were slashed or otherwise flattened. Damage is estimated at more than $1,000.

Gaffney police said three tires on two cars were slashed in the 100 block of Anthony Street sometime between Monday night and early Tuesday.
