Prayer vigil will be held for missing woman
Littlejohn, 24, was last seen by her family Nov. 28. Her 25th birthday passed Dec. 4 with the family receiving no word on her whereabouts. A prayer vigil will be held Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church, said Aquilla Littlejohn, Verlisha's mother. The church is located on 915 Concord Road near Lake Whelchel. The vigil is open to the public and will serve as a time of prayer for the safety of Littlejohn. "We pray for the safe return of Verlisha," Aquilla Littlejohn said. "The days pass longer and longer without any news. It doesn't look good." At the time of her disappearance, Verlisha Littlejohn was employed as a care worker at Charles Lea Center in Spartanburg. She worked with people who have mental and physical disabilities. Her mother has not spoken with Verlisha since a cell phone conversation with her daughter abruptly ended. The family has learned from Sprint that the call was transmitted from a cell phone in Greenville. Family members have received several calls about Littlejohn's dark green 1985 Ford Taurus being seen on area roadways. The Troup County (Ga.) Sheriff's Department is investigating whether a burned and dismembered body found outside Lagrange, Ga., matches the physical description of Littlejohn, according to broadcast reports by WSPA-TV in Spartanburg and WRBL News 3 in Columbus, Ga. The body of an African- American female was found Dec. 6, four miles north of Lagrange. The WRBL news report stated the Troup County Sheriff's Office became interested in Littlejohn during a search of missing person reports in the Southeast. Efforts by The Ledger to reach Troup County Sheriff's Office investigators were unsuccessful. Authorities from Georgia have not been in contact with the Littlejohn family. Anyone with information is asked to call the Cherokee County Sheriff's office at (864) 489-4722. |
