Humane society seeks to modify lease with city
Wants to build exercise yard
By LARRY HILLIARD Ledger Staff Writer larry@gaffneyledger.com

Prospective pet owners soon will be able to get up close and personal with their future pets.

The City of Gaffney Police Committee has agreed to amend its lease agreement with the Humane Society to allow for the construction of an exercise yard at the local animal shelter.

The original 25-year lease agreement had called for the Humane Society to build an adoption center at the animal shelter located on Yale Street.

"Instead of the building, the Humane Society requested a fenced-in exercise yard," Gaffney Administrator James Taylor said.

The fenced-in area will provide space for more interaction between animals and pet owners, Taylor said.

The modified agreement still needs approval from Gaffney City Council.
