Calvin Gene Mayes

Calvin Gene Mayes, Sr., 55, of 2712 Mayfield Drive, Lawrenceville, Georgia, died Thursday in his home.

Husband of Beverly Bonner Mayes, he was born in Gaffney, a son of Genell Tate Mayes of Gaffney and the late J.W. Mayes.

He was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, a 1974 graduate of Gaffney High School, a graduate of Benedict College, Columbia, S.C., member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and a mason.

Calvin was employed as Human Resources Manager at Martin Marietta Aggregate, Inc.

Also surviving are: 2 sons, Calvin Mayes, Jr. (Mary) of Jersey City, N.J., and William Christopher Mayes of Mercer University, Macon, Ga.; 1 daughter, Stephanie Mayes of Atlanta, Ga.; 3 brothers, Jerry Mayes of Spartanburg, Waddell Mayes (Diane) and William Thomas "Pee Wee" Mayes, both of Gaffney; 3 sisters, Mary Watkins (Joe), Sheila Ratchford (Warren), and Cheryl Harris, all of Gaffney; aunts, Bernell Tate, Ruth Huskey (Dean), Minnie Gregory, Ezera Tate, Minnie Lee Tate, Everlena Henderson, Rosa Lee Humphries; uncles, James Mayes (Dee), Joe Louis Tate (Sarah), Charles Tate (Mary), John D. Tate (Eloise), Victor Tate and Rev. Willie Mayes (Peggy); great-great aunt, Jessie Mae Foster.

Funeral services will be Thursday, 3:00 p.m., in Mt. Tabor Baptist Church with Rev. Darrell W. Smith officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

The body will be in the church Thursday at 2:00 p.m. The family is at the home of his mother, Genell Mayes, 2407 Beech St.

Gilmore Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
