Ruby Peeler Guest
Mrs. Guest was the widow of James Floyd Guest. Born on Oct. 13, 1915, in Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Darvey Cromer Peeler. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church for more than 70 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many. She will be dearly missed. Mrs. Guest is survived by two daughters and sons-inlaw, Sylvia and Joe Hughes and Betty and Bill Dalton, all of Cowpens; a son and daughter-in-law, Buddy and Elaine Guest of Spartanburg; eight grandchildren, Tina and Jason Martin, Beth Dalton, Vonnie and Brian McNamara, Jeff and Paula Guest, Kim and Larry Meltzer, Betsy and Ryan McCall, Jay and Deana Guest and Carmon Burgess; and 17 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Leatrice Clary, Doris Ellis, both of Gaffney, and Ola Smalley of Spartanburg; and a brother, D.C. Peeler of LaGrange, N.C. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Guest was preceded in death by two sisters, Mae Jones and Nettie Mae Bort, and three brothers, Roy Peeler, Clyde Peeler and Donald Peeler. Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Robert Kirby and the Revs. Ray Caldwell and Richard Krieg. Burial will be immediately following the service in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 250 Mt. Olive Church Road, Cowpens, S.C. 29330. Visitation was held Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Blakely Funeral Home in Gaffney.
