Man busted for marijuana A 22-year-old Blacksburg man was arrested last Friday after police executed a search warrant at a home and seized almost a half pound of suspected marijuana. According to a police report, officers went to a Deana Lane home at about 9:45 a.m. to execute a warrant. After Christopher Michael Ramey was read his rights, police said Ramey acknowledged the marijuana in the home was his and he then led police to a bedroom, where he opened a safe and turned over a bag containing about 8 ounces of a green, plantlike material. Firearm discharged A 47-year-old Gaffney man was arrested by the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office early on New Year's Day for discharging a firearm while intoxicated. Police were summoned to the Beaver Dam Road residence of James Eddie White at about 1 a.m. Tuesday. Police claim he was intoxicated and had discharged a firearm outside his residence. Home shot A Cowpens home was struck by a bullet just a few minutes after the New Year began Tuesday morning. Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported someone fired a shot that struck a home in the 4700 block of Old Georgia Highway at about 12:10 a.m. The shot of unknown caliber struck and lodged in the front of the residence beside the front door. Police said the bullet was still inside the front wall and did not penetrate into the interior of the home. The homeowners were watching television when the incident occurred. They were not sure where the shot came from, according to a police report. Heat pump stolen The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported someone stole a heat pump from a home in the 200 block of Cherokee Ford Road in Blacksburg on Saturday. The unit, believed to be made by Carrier, is valued at about $3,800, making the theft a grand larceny. Police said the incident occurred sometime between 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Xbox stolen The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating the break-in of a Clearfield Drive home early Saturday. An unknown person broke into the home sometime between 10 and 10:33 a.m., taking a Microsoft Xbox 360 video game console and DVD player. The stolen electronics are valued at about $350 while a door sustained about $100 in damage. Garage targeted The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported a thief or thieves entered a North Limestone Street business and stole copper wire and welding equipment. The incident at J.J. Auto Care, 1716 N. Limestone St., Gaffney, occurred sometime between Dec. 28 and Dec. 31, police reported. TV stolen A Gaffney home was broken into sometime Sunday by a burglar who stole a 37- inch Olevia television and four remote controls. According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the thief or thieves also tried to get inside an outbuilding of the Goucher Green Bethel Road home, but it did not appear anything was missing. The incident occurred sometime between 1 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. Copper stolen An estimated $30,000 in copper and air conditioning units were stolen from a Hampshire Drive home sometime between Dec. 17 and Dec. 29, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. Police said it appeared someone cut a lock on a gate leading to the building, which was not in use. The theft is being considered grand larceny. Windows broken Vandals broke windows on two different properties over the weekend, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. Two windows were broken when someone threw an object at a Hamrick Street home at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday, causing an estimated $120 in damage. Early Monday morning, someone broke the glass on the front door of Ruppe Rentals on Cherokee Avenue, causing an estimated $500 in damage. Door damaged The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said someone tried to gain entry to a Cowpens home Saturday afternoon by throwing a rock through a back door. While the burglar(s) caused an estimated $300 in door damage to the East Cudd Road property, the homeowner said nothing appeared to be missing from the interior. Car Keyed The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported that a woman's car sustained an estimated $700 in damages from vandalism sometime between last Thursday and Friday morning. The car, which was parked in the 1700 block of East Cherokee Street, Blacksburg, was keyed on both sides and on the hood. Police said a vandal or vandals also slashed two tires on the 2006 Suzuki Forenza. Paint damage was estimated at $500 while tire damage was estimated at $200. Break-in halted A thief attempting to steal an air conditioning unit from a Durman Alley, Gaffney, home apparently dropped the unit and fled before he was caught. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported that the unknown person opened a back door leading to an enclosed porch on the Durman Alley home sometime around 10 p.m. Friday night and tried to steal the unit. But when someone inside the home came out to investigate noises on the porch, the thief apparently dropped the air conditioning unit in the grass and fled. |
