Duncans will appear on TV show Sunday
A video submitted to ABC's "America's Funniest Home Videos" by the Duncan family will air Sunday. For most families, taking a camera on vacation is an opportunity to capture special moments for repeated viewing and longtime storage.
But very few are able to share their fun with a national audience.
A Cherokee County family will have that opportunity as their exploits - one in particular - during a vacation will be a part of Sunday's broadcast of ABC's "America's Funniest Home Videos."
Bobby Duncan found himself waking up with a camera in his face during his family's trip to Myrtle Beach three years ago when he was part of a prank pulled by his granddaughter.
"I was getting a little rest in between activities during our trip," he said. "We always like to do things to have a little fun. But they really got me with this one."
While sleeping on a couch at the family's place by the beach, his granddaughter, Brittany Cobb, interrupted his nap by dousing his face with flour.
"The flour covered virtually every inch of my face, especially around my eyes," Bobby Duncan said.
After overcoming the "sneak attack," Bobby watched the tape with the rest of his family during which he said he "could not stop laughing."
"I found it hilarious and immediately thought about America's Funniest Home Videos," Bobby Duncan said. "We definitely believed it could be a winner."
The family finally sent the video to AFV almost six months ago and waited patiently as days, weeks and months passed without a response.
Then, a few weeks ago, Bobby received a call from AFV telling him that the family's tape had been chosen for broadcast on the show - although it did not make the cut as one of the final three eligible for the grand prize.
"We definitely thought our tape was funny enough to make the top three, but being able to be part of the show is special," Bobby Duncan said. "Millions of tapes are submitted and ours was one of those chosen. It is really an honor."
Football may be king this time of year as the NFLseason heads toward Super Sunday, but Bobby said the playoffs will take a back seat this week as his family waits to see themselves on television.
"We will be sitting right in front of our television on Sunday...without a doubt," Bobby Duncan said. "Football is great, but (AFV) is definitely our top priority this Sunday."
