BOULEVARD BANGUP
A 61-year-old Gaffney man was transported to Upstate Carolina Medical Center following a three-car collision Friday morning on West Floyd Baker Boulevard. According to a preliminary police report, the accident began when a red Nissan pickup driven by Paul Dean Powell, 29, of Mooresboro, N.C., turned left onto West Floyd Baker Boulevard from a private driveway and failed to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic. Powell's vehicle struck another Nissan truck, driven by 61-year-old Broadus Dawkins of Gaffney, which was headed West on West Floyd Baker Boulevard. The impact of the two trucks then sent Dawkins' truck into the eastbound lane of West Floyd Baker Boulevard, where his truck collided head-on with a Toyota minivan driven by Rita Phillips of Gaffney. Dawkins was able to get on a stretcher under his own power. All three vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
