Toddler shoots mom in face

By TIM GULLA Ledger Staff Writer tim@gaffneyledger.com

A 27-year-old Gaffney woman is recovering from a gunshot she suffered at the hands of her 3-year-old son.

Sadie Ann Davidson was shot in the mouth Sunday afternoon at her East Junior High Road apartment when her toddler somehow got hold of a .22 caliber handgun.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office still was investigating the incident as of Tuesday afternoon and had reached no final conclusions, according to Chief Deputy Joel Hill.

He said it was believed the handgun had been kept in a dresser drawer. The bullet struck Davidson in her jaw. She was treated and released from the hospital, officials said.

Sheriff Bill Blanton said investigators were interviewing all potential witnesses.

"Adults have to bear the responsibility if they're going to keep a firearm in the house, especially when children are in the house," he said. "They bear the responsibility of making sure it's safe and properly stored and obviously this one wasn't."
