The chairman of the Cherokee County Election Commission will have to wait a little longer to learn if she'll get a little more in her paycheck.

For the second time, the Cherokee County Council Finance Committee last week delayed action on Suzanne Turner's request for a $4,158 salary increase.

If approved, Turner would be paid the same amount as the manager of the county's voter registration office, who earns $16,473 a year.

Turner currently earns $12,315 a year,

Turner claims she's owed the increase because her workload is similar to the voter registration manager.

Both positions are part-time and are ineligible for health insurance benefits from the county.

Cherokee County Interim Administrator Ben Clary said the county has turned down other requests from employees for salary increases during the current fiscal year.

Committee member Rufus Foster suggested delaying action until discussions on the proposed budget, but committee members agreed to make a decision at their next meeting.
