Police investigating rash of burglaries in recent days Police are investigating several burglaries that occurred in recent days. Someone broke into an apartment on White Oak Drive sometime between Feb. 14 and Feb. 15, causing an estimated $250 in damage to a door and door molding, according to Gaffney police. The victim, Partnership Properties, was unaware if anything had been taken. Another burglary was reported on Sycamore Street on Feb. 15, Gaffney police said. Someone broke into the home between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. through a back window and stole about $1,000 in electronics including: a 26- inch Vizio LCD television, a Playstation 3 console and a Playstation 2 console. A third burglary was reported on Oakdale Road, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. Someone broke into an outbuilding between Feb. 8 and Feb. 18, stealing 300 feet of wire, a table saw, lathe, and several sanders and grinders. Theft losses were estimated at $2,700. Shoplifting arrests Two Gaffney residents were arrested for shoplifting Friday, Feb. 15, after they allegedly walked out of the Bi-Lo on West Floyd Baker Boulevard without paying for $64 in beauty products. According to police, Demeka Ann Smith, 27, of East Floyd Baker and Alan Johnson, 20, of West Carlisle Street, allegedly refused to give back the merchandise when confronted by a store employee. The two were stopped by police a few minutes later on West Frederick Street and allegedly were found in possession of 18 miscellaneous items of deodorant, body wash and body mist. Equipment stolen An estimated $3,300 in tarps, chains and equipment was reported stolen from a flatbed trailer, according to Gaffney police. The trailer was parked on Corona Avenue and the thefts occurred sometime between last Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning. Firearm discharged
Gaffney Police are investigating the discharge of a firearm and a separate assault, both of which might have been gang-related. A Beech Street resident complained to police that someone discharged a firearm late Wednesday night and then left the area in a White Jeep Cherokee. The person who reported it believed the incident was gang-related. The name of a suspect in the Wednesday night incident given to police was similar to a name that surfaced in two other police reports regarding shooting incidents that occurred within minutes on Monday night. Possible gang activity was mentioned in those reports as well. No one was injured in any of the three shooting incidents. Late Feb. 16 into early Feb. 17, according to a recently released report, a 17-year-old Chesnee teen allegedly was the victim of a group assault by 10 men on West Frederick Street. The teen gave police names of four of the subjects who left him with various cuts and bruises, according to a police report. The teen told police the men were all part of a local gang. Mopeds stolen Two mopeds with a combined value of about $2,200 were stolen from a Short Alley property sometime between last Wednesday night and Thursday morning, according to Gaffney police. One moped was a 2006 Tank Pronto 150, green and white in color, while the other moped was described in a police report as a black and red Pronto. Laptop stolen A laptop valued at about $1,000 was stolen from a vehicle parked outside a local hotel, according to Gaffney police. Someone caused an estimated $400 in window and lock damage while gaining access to a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado parked outside the Holiday Inn Express on Windslow Avenue, police reported. The incident occurred sometime between last Monday night and Tuesday morning. The car belonged to a Charlotte, N.C., man and the Lenovo laptop computer belonged to Occupational Fitness, of Ringgold, Ga. |
