Identity theft, fraud workshop March 7 in Spartanburg

SPARTANBURG - South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs will hold an identity theft and fraud workshop Friday, March 7, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Spartanburg County Public Library, 151 S. Church St.

The workshop, which is designed to educate the public on how to protect themselves against fraud and identity theft, is free and open to anyone. Sessions on different topics will be held throughout the day.

S.C. Secretary of State Mark Hammond will present a workshop on charity fraud at 10 a.m.

Wachovia Bank's fraud expert Tom Hudson will give a presentation on bank fraud at 10:45 a.m.

At 11:30 a.m., Spartanburg County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Kevin Bobo will make a presentation of fraud and identity theft.

The FBI will give a presentation on internet fraud at 1:30 p.m., followed at 2:15 p.m. by a presentation by the U.S. Postal Inspector Service on mail fraud.

Spartanburg Public Safety Det. Tobey Bradley will hold the last presentation of the day at 3 p.m. on the topic of identity theft and the elderly.
