Pfeiffer ousts Saints

Just three days after losing at Limestone, Pfeiffer defeated the Saints 86-80 in the first round of the Conference Carolinas tournament on Monday.

The Saints end their season with a 10-17 overall record while the Falcons improve to 21-7 on the season.

Andre Coleman scored a game-high 16 points for the Saints. Marques Williams scored 12 and had 6 boards, while Andrae Franklin also had six rebounds and two blocks for the Saints.

Six Falcons reached double figures. Jeff Pettiway and Quintel Maxwell scored 13 points apiece. Alvin Slaton, Logan Call, and Josh Roper each scored 11, while Thomas Carr contributed 10 points.

Pfeiffer had a narrow 38-35 lead at the half. There were 20 lead changes in the tight contest.

The Saints shot 67 percent from the field and were 3-for-6 from the foul line. Pfeiffer shot just 47 percent, but capitalized on 20 of its 27 free-throw attempts.

In women's action, Belmont Abbey women's basketball team erased a four-point halftime deficit to advance to the semifinal round of tournament with a 53-46 win over the Lady Saints on Monday.

Limestone ends its season at 16-15.

Stephanie Munoz had 15 points on 5-9 shooting from the floor to pace the Lady Saints. Addie Graves added 11 points on 5-7 shooting from the field for Limestone.

Tiffany Jones led the Lady Saints with five assists and Ariel Lyons finished with three steals.

Limestone shot 39.5 percent from the field.

Belmont Abbey shot 38 percent from the floor. Marie Marquez led all scorers with 17 points on 5-10 shooting.

She also had five assists and four steals. Courtney Naquin added 15 points on 4-9 shooting, including four baskets from threepoint range.
