Woods piles up points, wins MVP honors

      Gaffney's Johnny Woods finished his basketball career in a big way on Friday. Woods scored 24 points to lead the East to a 106-95 win over the West and earn the MVP award at the Spartanburg Tip-Off Boys All-Star Game Friday at USC Upstate.

Gaffney shows promise

      The Gaffney boys track team proved they belong with the region's elite on Thursday. The Indians pushed the defending state champion Cavaliers to the limit before falling 73-75 at Dorman. The Indians could have pulled off the upset but they don't have any pole vaulters to compete in the event.

Lady Saints upset West Chester, 9-8
STAFF REPORTS
      The No. 3 Limestone College women's lacrosse team upset No. 2 West Chester 9-8 on Sunday afternoon at Saints Field. Limestone climbs to 5-1 overall while West Chester begins its season with a 0-1 record. Jackie Baker put the Golden Rams up 1-0 with a goal early in the first half. Limestone's Kelly Lickert evened the score just a couple minutes later.

      Saints beat St. Andrews The Saints baseball team defeated St. Andrews 8-2 on Sunday afternoon at Bob Prevatte Field. Limestone improves to 13-11 overall and 6-6 in Conference Carolinas play. The Knights stand at 9-13. Dylan Anthony and Drew Lydon both hit home runs for Limestone. Anthony was 3-4 with 3 RBIs.

Indians lack scoring punch

      The Gaffney High boys soccer team hasn't had the scoring touch early this season. The Indians mustered just two goals in a pair of losses to open the season last week. Gaffney's Josh Harris tied the game with a goal after halftime but Boiling Springs dominated play after that en route to a 5-1 victory on Friday.

Vaughn propels Limestone to 17-5 win over Adelphi
STAFF REPORTS
      The No. 3 Limestone College men's lacrosse team cruised to a 17-5 win over Adelphi University on Saturday afternoon at Saints Field. The Saints improve to 4-0 overall while the Panthers fall to 1-2. Limestone outshot Adelphi 47-27.

Busch gives Toyota first Sprint Cup win

      HAMPTON, Ga. - It was like the good old days for Joe Gibbs Racing on Sunday at Atlanta Motor Speedway when newcomer Kyle Busch put the No. 18 in the Winner's Circle. But there was a new twist - the first NASCAR Sprint Cup victory for Toyota. And Busch and teammate Tony Stewart also gave the Japanese automaker its first 1-2 finish.

Tigers lock up third place with victory

      CLEMSON - Demontez Stitt headed to the free throw line for two shots with his team trailing by one and 3.8 seconds to go. Clemson fans held their breath. At least half of the Tigers' eight losses can be tied to poor foul shooting, for the worst free-throw shooting team in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
