Irishfest 2008 parade applications available

Wear something green and…walk your dog, ride a bike, get a group of children together to roller skate, push a hospital bed, form a bedpan, leaf rake, or briefcase brigade, pull a child in a wagon, think of anything totally outrageous (of course it must also be in good taste) and join in the fun of the first annual Irishfest parade on Saturday, March 15. Adults and children, businesses, churches, schools and nonprofit organizations are all encouraged to participate. This is the time to let your hair down, be silly, and just have good clean fun!

The City of Gaffney's first annual Irishfest parade, coordinated this year by the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, begins at 9:30 a.m. Line up for the parade begins at 8:30 a.m. on Railroad Avenue at the intersection with North Limestone Street. The parade will end at the Michael Gaffney Log Home. No motorized vehicles are allowed, however dignitaries, and those persons unable to walk for long distances, may choose to ride in golf carts. All animals that participate in the parade must be restrained. There is no entry fee, and you or your organization or business may win Finnegan, King of the Leprechauns. The Cherokee County of Chamber of Commerce has had Finnegan sent all the way from Ireland to be presented to the winning entry in the Irishfest 2008 parade!

Parade applications are available at the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce and at the City of Gaffney Visitor's Center or by calling 489-5721 or the City of Gaffney Visitor's Center at 487-6244,. The deadline to enter is noon on Friday, March 14.
