Monroe Benjamine Smith Sr.
Monroe Benjamine Smith Sr., 85, of 223 Tiffany Park, passed Friday morning, March 7 at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A native of Cherokee County, Smith was the widower of the late Mary Jane Glenn Smith and son of the late James and Ada Smith. He was a member of Albert Chapel United Methodist Church. Before moving to Blacksburg, Smith attended Hopewell Presbyterian Church of Blacksburg.
He was a retired employee of Firestone Mill in Gastonia, N.C.
Smith is survived by four daughters, Christine Vanlue and Ruby Hames, both of Gaffney; Jacqueline McClure of Gastonia, N.C.; and Ann Wilson of Spartanburg; a son, Monroe B. Smith Jr. of Gaffney; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 13 at 2 p.m. at Dunton United Methodist Church with the Rev. John W. Evans officiating.
Interment will follow in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
Smith's body will lie instate at 1 p.m. until the hour of the service.
The family will receive friends at Foster Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 12 from 7 to 8 p.m.
The family is at the home of Kenneth and Ruby Hames at 583 Northgate Road.
