(Ledger photo / TIM GULLA) A Gaffney man survived a scary wreck on Old Georgia Highway on Monday afternoon when his car flipped and landed on a wooden fence, portions of which crashed through his windshield.
According to a report from the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Richard Raines, 20, of Gaffney, was driving north on Old Georgia Highway when he lost control, went down an embankment, and flipped over on top of the wooden fence.
Despite initial reports that the accident might also have involved a motorcycle, Highway Patrol officials said it was determined the incident was just a one-vehicle accident. Raines was cited for driving too fast for conditions, according to the Highway Patrol.
Emergency personnel from Goucher White Plains Volunteer Fire Department responded to the accident scene. Raines was transported to Upstate Carolina Medical Center. A hospital official said he was treated and released the same day.
Police said Raines was wearing a seat belt.
