Red Cross chapter gets a taste of success with its fundraiser

Dear Editor:

The Cherokee County American Red Cross' signature fundraiser, A Taste of Cherokee, made $15,000, which was double what was earned at the 2007 event.

There are so many people to thank. We couldn't have pulled it off without Becky Mullinax, Brandy Smith, Boyd Metze, Ray Broome, Angie Wilkerson, Scott Wylie, and Amanda & Fred Knowles, all of whom helped to set up, which is a big, big job.

Other volunteers who helped during the event since I was being pulled in many directions, are Tina McSwain, Tina Harris, Marjorie Appiah, Tim Hanshaw, Thom King, Louie Holland, Eddie Hughey, Jim Holland, Lewis Blanton, Ray Nix, and our auctioneer Dennis Fowler.

This year saw the 37 table sponsors really competing to win the top three spots in the contest.

Table Decoration Contest Winners - Cherokee County Jr. Women's Club 1st; Cherokee County Coroner's Office 2nd; A Kut Above 3rd.

The Table Judges, Dawn Bridges, Ann Martin and Jan Moss said they had a very difficult time selecting only three of the many, many creative tables.

Volunteer Awards: Hound Dog Loyalty Award - Eddie Hughey.

Golden Trash Can - Donald Holly.

Lifesaver - Becky Mullinax and Brandy Smith.

To our Event Sponsors, a GIANT THANK YOU. The lion's share of the profit came from these businesses and individuals:

Dialysis Clinic Inc.: $5,000; Buford Street Drugs: $1,000; Kiwanis Club; Nestle; Spartanburg Nephrology; Upstate Carolina Medical Center: $500; Gaffney Board of Public Works: $250; CC Jr. Women's Club; Civic Club of Gaffney; Hames Music; Hospice Care of SC; Drs. Hank Jolly & Michelle Bedell; Dennis Moss; Ruby B. Holland; Spartanburg Community College, and;

Wachovia National Bank.

Thanks to all of you who purchased tickets, bought auction items and in general came out to have fun with us last week. We could not provide the vital emergency services to our community without your support.
