Local church presents Easter drama
The Calvary Baptist Church adult choir and drama team will present the Easter musical drama, "I Am He" this weekend.
The drama will be performed Friday, March 14, and Saturday, March 15 at 6:45 p.m. It will be presented Sunday, March 16 at 5:45 p.m.
A cast of 50 to 60 members will present music and scenes depicting the life of Jesus Christ.
The musical drama has a powerful ending with the choir accompanied on the song "Midnight Cry" by the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir.
"The cast has worked very hard since the beginning of January to develop a story that unfolds before the viewers," Calvary Baptist Church Pastor Terry Pleasant said. "The life of Jesus can be seen in a wonderful display of drama and music. The musicians and actors are committed to the task of doing their very best for the Lord."
Prior to the service, church youth will perform several Easter skits to help the set the scene for the "I Am He" program.
The set was built by men from the church, who often gave up Saturdays to work on the production.
More than 1,000 people attended last year's three performances of the Easter drama.
"We are looking for a record crowd this year," Pleasant said. "Our purpose in presenting the 'I Am He' drama is to portray Jesus Christ in a positive way so people can come to know him as Lord and Savior."
Calvary Baptist Church is located at 2929 Cherokee Ave.
The church is beside Alma Elementary School and the East Gaffney Fire Station.
