16-year-old bike rider hit by car Sunday

A 16-year-old juvenile suffered a head injury Sunday at noon when he was hit by a car while riding a moped on Railroad Avenue.

Jarrett Blanton, of 207 Walnut Street, was traveling east on Railroad Avenue when he attempted to make a left turn onto Third Street. Gaffney police officer Jerry Smith said the juvenile failed to yield the right of way and pulled into the path of a 2000 Ford driven by Gaffney resident Gail Melton Starnes.

The juvenile was not wearing a helmet and was transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. No information on his medical condition was available by press time.

No charges were filed.
