MOORESBORO, N.C. - Garmon Barnes, 98, of 2760 McCraw Road, went home to be with the Lord on March 18, 2008, at Hospice House in Forest City, N.C.

Born in Marion, N.C., he was the husband of Minnie Hopper Barnes and son of the late Ben Barnes and Lillie Foster Barnes. He was first married to the late Pearl Potter Barnes. He was retired owner and operator of a saw mill and was a member of Woodmen of the World. Mr. Barnes was a member of Lavonia Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by a daughterin law, Bonnie Ellis of Gaffney; a brother, Gill Barnes of Cliffside, N.C.; a sister, Joyce Norman, also of Cliffside; four grandchildren, Donnie Barnes and wife, Martha, Faye Whelchel and husband, Furman, all of Gaffney, Ray Barnes and wife, Patricia, and Blackie Barnes and wife, Tina, all of Mooresboro, N.C.; five great-grandchildren and six great-greatgrandchildren.

In addition to his first wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jinky Eugene Barnes, and several brothers and sisters.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to caregivers, Frances Black, Teresa Humphries, Tina Barnes, Linda Ruppe and Shirley Harmon.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 19, from 6-8 p.m. at the home of Faye and Furman Whelchel, 317 Stateline Road, Gaffney. Graveside services will be held Thursday, March 20, at 11 a.m. in Frederick Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Mike Frazier.

Pallbearers will be Monty Gordon, David Blanton, Bruce Whelchel, Chris Whelchel and Kenny Taylor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Rutherford County Inc., P.O. Box 336, Forest City, N.C. 28043.

The family will be at the home of Faye and Furman Whelchel, 317 Stateline Road, Gaffney.
