School district to honor 40 junior scholars April 1
Students become a junior scholar by scoring above 50 on the PSAT in verbal, math or writing
      A new junior scholar initiative can be classified as a moderate success for Cherokee County middle school students. This is no April Fool's joke for the 40 students who will be honored at an April 1 awards banquet in Cherokee Technology Center. In comparison, the district had 34 junior scholars in 2006.

Jury acquits man accused of criminal sexual conduct
      Tears welled in the corners of his eyes as Joseph Scott Cash embraced his attorney and family members Thursday afternoon in Cherokee County General Sessions Court. For almost a year, Cash was an accused child molester facing the likelihood of a lengthy stay in prison if convicted and a lifetime with a sex offender label.

      South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs will visit Gaffney on Friday, March 28, to handle consumer complaints and questions. Regional SCDCA outreach coordinator Patty Guthrie will meet with consumers at the Cherokee County Public Library, 300 E. Rutledge Ave., from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

      The chances may be slim for any of the students participating in Wednesday's annual 5-on-5 basketball tournament at Limestone College to have the opportunity to sign a million dollar contract or make regular appearances on TV.

11-year-old boy admits to setting fire, police say
      A suspicious fire behind Granard Courts on March 12 has led to a date in Family Court for an 11-year-old boy. According to an updated incident report filed this week, Gaffney police said a young boy's name kept coming up during their investigation of the fire, which scorched about two acres of woods behind the apartment complex.

Limestone names director of Extended Campus program
      Patricia Sokols has been named Limestone College's new Director of the Extended Campus Classroom Program. Sokols' duties include recruiting students, marketing, recommending faculty, assisting faculty, and supervising personnel at the various site locations.

      Four Limestone College biology majors recently presented the results of their undergraduate research projects at the annual South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (SCICU) Student/Faculty Undergraduate Research Symposium at the BMW Zentrum Center in Greer.
