11-year-old boy admits to setting fire, police say A suspicious fire behind Granard Courts on March 12 has led to a date in Family Court for an 11-year-old boy. According to an updated incident report filed this week, Gaffney police said a young boy's name kept coming up during their investigation of the fire, which scorched about two acres of woods behind the apartment complex. Police said they asked the boy and his mother to come in for an interview and that the young boy acknowledged setting the fire. Police didn't say what charges the boy would face, only that charges were pending in Family Court. Meter removed Gaffney police are investigating the alleged theft of natural gas at a Chandler Drive apartment. According to a police report filed by a Piedmont Natural Gas official, a resident of 201 Chandler Drive allegedly cut the lock off his gas meter and was using natural gas without paying from Feb. 1 to March 14. Police said the gas meter was removed entirely from the residence. Woman shot at The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating a recent incident in which a man allegedly fired three shots at a woman as she attempted to leave their home. Treating the incident as a case of assault and battery with intent to kill, a Candlewood Lane road woman claimed a 54-year-old man had fired a gun at her March 13, according to an incident report. No arrest had been reported as of Tuesday. Handgun stolen A Doles Lane man reported the theft of a handgun from his home, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. The man told police the .32 caliber handgun was taken from his home sometime between March 13 and March 18. A possible suspect was named but no one saw the theft, police said. The incident report did not list a make or model number of the gun, valued at $400. Glass door shattered A Commerce Drive business was burglarized sometime between the evening of March 17 and morning of March 18, according to Gaffney police. Someone shattered the glass lobby door of Carthuplas Inc. and stole a petty cash box from inside. Police were told the cash box contained about $700 and the door damage was estimated at about $3,000. Nothing else appeared to be missing from the business. Hair stolen Gaffney Police are investigating the theft of $45 in hair weave products from a North Limestone Street business Monday. According to a police report, an unknown woman wearing a pink top, along with two other women, stole four packs of hair weave from the Dollar & Beauty Supply store at 809 N. Limestone Street between 5 and 5:10 p.m. on Monday. The theft was captured on a security video. The woman who allegedly took the hair weave products left on foot, walking north on Limestone Street. A responding police officer was unable to locate her. Copper stolen The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating the theft of more than $18,000 in copper wire from a Shelby Highway business. Sometime between 6 p.m. on March 18 and 5 a.m. on March 19, someone entered Mastec Inc., 1020 Shelby Highway, without force and stole 1,350 feet of copper wire. Police said the wire was valued at $13.66 per foot, making total theft losses $18,360. Duke reports break-in Someone broke into a Duke Energy property, including several storage trailers, on Dravo Road in Blacksburg recently. According to a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone cut a side fence to enter the Duke Energy property and then cut three locks off storage trailers to gain access. It was unclear at the time of the report if anything had been taken. The break-in occurred sometime between 4:30 p.m. on March 17 and 6 a.m. on March 18 Car stolen A car was reported stolen from a West Floyd Baker Boulevard parking lot, according to Gaffney police. Sometime between March 15 and March 16, a gray 1993 Lincoln was taken from the lot of Advance Auto Parts, 1402 W. Floyd Baker. The owner of the car was told by a store employee that the store did not have the vehicle towed away, according to a police report. Business damaged A North Limestone Street business sustained more than $1,500 in theft and damage losses recently. Sometime between 8 a.m. on March 16 and 4:30 p.m. on March 17, someone entered a mobile home at Stephenson Homes Inc., 1932 N. Limestone Street, and stole an air conditioning unit valued at $1,500. A Cherokee County Sheriff's Office report estimated the thief or thieves also caused about $150 in damage while removing the air conditioning unit from the building. Damage to home The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported someone broke into a Killion Drive, Gaffney, home Tuesday, causing about $200 in damage. Someone pried open the front door to the home, located in the 300 block, sometime between 4 p.m. and 11:40 p.m. It was unclear if anything had been stolen from the home at the time the report was given to police. |
