Local Gamecock Club
meeting April 8
The Spartanburg-Cherokee- Greenville Gamecock clubs will hold its spring meeting at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium Tuesday, April 8, with dinner starting at 5:30 p.m. and the program starting at 7 p.m. The guest speakers will be Steve Spurrier and administrative staff. Tickets are now on sale for $20 each and must be purchased by April 3.

Flag football league
looking for teams
The Gaffney Flag Football League is now looking for teams to compete in the spring season.
The 7 on 7 league will play games on Sunday afternoons beginning on April 13. The deadline for teams to sign up is April 6.
The entry fee is $250 per team. A $1,000 prize will be awarded to the league champion.

Slots still open
in benefit tourney
Acharity golf tournament benefitting the Cherokee County Crime Stoppers program still has some additional slots open for golfers.
The tournament is scheduled for March 28 at Gaffney Country Club. The field is limited to 18 teams of four and tee times are scheduled for 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Cost is $140 per team. For additional information, to register, or inquire about hole sponsorship, call tournament sponsor Benna's Sports Club at 487-1212.
The day after the golf tournament, March 29, Benna's Sports Club also is sponsoring a poker run. Sign ups for the bike run will start at noon at the club and the poker run is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. Cost is $20 a bike, $10 a rider. Proceeds from the event will go to Crime Stoppers.
Lenoir-Rhyne
edges Limestone
The Lenoir-Rhyne College baseball team (16-16) defeated Limestone College (18-14), 10-9, on Thursday afternoon at Bears Field on a gamewinning single in the bottom of the ninth inning by freshman shortstop Anthony Sully.
Sully drove in sophomore catcher Randall Shepherd with one out and the bases loaded to lift Lenoir-Rhyne to the win.
The lead changed hands several times throughout the contest.
Limestone scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning, highlighted by Adam McSwain's two-run home run, for an 8-6 advantage before the Bears responded with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to regain the lead at 9-8.
The Saints tied the game at nine on McSwain's sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning before Sully's heroics won the game for the Bears in the ninth.

top Belmont Abbey
The No. 3-ranked Limestone College men's lacrosse team defeated Belmont Abbey 10-6 on Wednesday afternoon.
Limestone improves to 6-0 on the season with the win, and the Crusaders drop to 0-4.
The Saints' Brendan Storrier and A.J. Vaughn each scored two goals. Jake Rogalia, Justin Haworth, Michael Poerstel, Eric Turner and Sam Buppert also scored. Vaughn and Haworth recorded assists.
