Lifelong member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church

BLACKSBURG - Ruth Vivian Owensby Cobb, 76, of 632 Cherokee Falls Road, died Saturday, March 22, 2008, at Regional Hospice Home.

A native of Cherokee Falls, Mrs. Cobb was the wife of Nefford Cobb and daughter of the late Russell and Clara Hampton Owensby. She was a housewife and lifelong member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where she served as church clerk for many years and sang in the choir. Her greatest achievement at the church was her completion of the Master Life Course.

Also surviving are two sons, Gene Cobb of the home and Thomas Edward Cobb and wife, Nina, of Blacksburg; a daughter, Anita Smith and husband, Dan, of Shelby; two brothers, Larry Owensby and wife, Elaine, of McAdenville, N.C., and Mike Owensby and wife, Brenda, of Spartanburg; three grandchildren, Philip Cobb and wife, Kristi, Charli Cobb and Sarah Cobb, all of Blacksburg; and two greatgrandchildren, Titus and Cameron Cobb of Blacksburg.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cobb was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Bailey and Mildred Denton, and a brother, Ray Owensby.

The family will receive friends Monday, March 24, from 2:30-3:30 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with services following at 4 p.m., conducted by Dr. Billy Boone and the Revs. Jason Patterson and Jamie Martin. Entombment will follow at Clingman Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Dan Smith, Robbie Smith, Ben Hollifield, Jimmy (Slick) Owensby, Mike Borders, Anthony Scott and Butch Bailey.
