Gaffney golfers lead pack The Gaffney Indians proved too much for the 19-team field at the Hartman Memorial on Monday. The Indians shot a 312 for a 5-shot, firstround lead over Pinewood Prep. Blythewood was third with a 319. Gaffney golf coach Todd Coggins said the Indians must duplicate Tuesday's effort during today's final round. "We have to show up and play," he said. Gaffney's Adam Goins did just that on Tuesday with a team-best 2-over 74. He's in fourth overall behind the individual leader Austin Cody, who shot a 69 for Pinewood Prep. "Adam played solid," Coggins said. "He made a lot of pars and a couple of birdies and bogeys." Gaffney's Matthew Hopper had a 75 for fifth place overall. Hopper started slowly with a 4-over after four holes, but was 1- under the rest of the way. Daniel Whisenant had an 81, while Trey Taylor shot an 82 and Will Coggins had an 83 for the Indians. The top four scores of each team were used to calculate team totals. White Plains Country Club in Pageland is hosting the 2-day event. Coggins said the golf course presents a challenge. "The greens are tough," he said. |
