The Gaffney Business and Professional Women's Club will have a special membership meeting Tuesday, April 1, at Sagebrush Restaurant at 6:30 p.m.
Terry Dennis, executive director of Cherokee County Meals on Wheels who oversees all facets of its operation, will speak. Directors of other service organizations are also invited to speak. Mrs. Dennis is the Gaffney BPW Club's Woman of Accomplishment for 2007-2008.
The objective of the Gaffney Business and Professional Women's Club is to elevate the standards of women in business and in the professions, to promote the interest of business and professional women, to bring about a spirit of cooperation among businesses and professional women to the United States, and to extend opportunities to business and professional women through education along lines of industrial, scientific and vocational activities.
Members of the Gaffney BPW Club are also members of BPW/SC and BPW/USA. The local group offers scholarships to graduating seniors of Blacksburg and Gaffney high schools who plan to attend college. The Education Foundation, a branch of BPW/SC, offers scholarships to women wanting to further their education.
The BPW's legislative agenda is the elimination of discrimination in employment, the principle of pay equity, the need for a comprehensive equal rights amendment and the passing of legislation that deals with women's issues.
Guests and prospective new members are welcome to attend the meeting. Women who are interested in joining the local organization will have one-half of their dues paid by the club. For more information, call 489-6175 or 488-0826.
