Named Fulbright Scholar
Limestone College Associate Professor of English Dr. Alex Richardson was recently awarded a Fulbright Scholar Award to teach in Portugal. Richardson will be traveling to the Island of Madeira next spring to teach two courses on American culture at the University of Madeira.
The Fulbright Scholar Program sends 800 U.S. faculty and professionals abroad each year. Grantees lecture and conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields. The Fulbright Program is sponsored by the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
"I'm honored and feel very fortunate to have been selected," said Richardson. "I am also very proud to be able to represent Limestone College in this capacity."
Richardson is currently promoting two recent publications. Last year, he published his first collection of poetry, Porch Night on Walnut Street. He also has four poems in the recently launched Still House, an anthology of Spartanburg poetry published by the Hub City Writers Project.
Richardson, the Chair of the Department English and Modern Languages, began his tenure at Limestone in 2000 after completing the doctoral program at the University of Southern Mississippi's Center for Writers. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of South Carolina.
