The Gaffney Indians will try to get the better of 47 other golf teams today and tomorrow at the prestigious Hardaway Invitational. Prep golf powers from Georgia, Alabama, Florida and South Carolina, including Gaffney, Fort Dorchester, A.C. Flora and Spring Valley will compete in the Hardaway Invitational in Columbus, Ga. More ... The new Gaffney High track will be finished shortly after the current school year ends. Sossamon Construction has graded the surface for an eight lane competition track. Starting Monday, contractor Larry Sossamon said workers will begin paving the surface in preparation for placing the rubberized track. More ... Chamber golf tourney on tap for April 19 The 2008 Annual Member Golf Tournament, sponsored by the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, will be held Friday, April 18, at Cherokee National Golf Club. Registration and lunch will begin at 11 a.m. with lunch catered by Fatz. Shotgun start is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. using a Captain's Choice format. More ... The Lady Saints softball team split a conference doubleheader with Erskine College on Wednesday evening. The Saints dropped game one 5-8 and won the second 11-10. Both games went into extra innings. The Lady Saints are now 20-28 overall, 8-8 in the league, while Erskine stands at 23-16-1 overall, 14-2 in the conference. More ... Winning poles never gets old for Ryan Newman, NASCAR's Rocketman. Still smarting from the indignity of being penalized 25 points after his fourthplace car was found to be an eighth of an inch too high after last Sunday's race at Texas, Newman bounced back Thursday with his 43rd career pole. More ... The Limestone College chorus will treat local residents Tuesday to selections from their recent tour in Washington. Chorus students will be joined by the community chorus for a free spring concert at 7:30 p.m. at Fullerton Auditorium. The chorus will perform many of the songs from its March 7-11 tour in the Washington, D.C. area. More ...
