Cancer survivors will be honored at Relay for Life dinner on April 21
"This is a night of celebration as we all fight back against the disease."
      Each year thousands of Americans are diagnosed with some form of cancer which, sadly, for some translates into a death sentence. However, it doesn't have to be that way. Many believe if they keep the faith, they can beat the odds.

      Reassessment notices should be arriving in county mailboxes next month. Cherokee County Tax Assessor Bob Everett said his office is "cleaning up files" and awaiting word from the software manufacturer that prepares the reassessment notices

     HOOFING IT Ominous skies did not keep walkers and cyclists of all ages from coming out in support of Iron City Ministries this past weekend, taking part in the nonprofit organization's annual 100-mile bike ride. This was the eighth consecutive year the event has been held, with funds going to support the efforts of the ministry. Led by a fire truck from the CKC Fire Department, approximately 20 cyclists began the ride, which was named in honor of former Cherokee Technology Center Director and Iron City Ministries supporter Ray Bedford. Bedford was 57 when he died suddenly last May. The two-day fundraiser began Friday with a lasagna dinner at Blacksburg Middle School. Ledger photo by Joe Hughes II

Councilman defends junkyard ordinance
      A Cherokee County Councilman doesn't want to completely gut the county's new junkyard ordinance in order to placate a group of junkyard operators. Councilman Bailey Humphries said existing junkyards should adhere to state guidelines concerning junkyards and has asked county officials to review its provisions.

'Repossessed' truck found at scrap yard
      The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating a Thursday incident in which two men purported to repossess a vehicle but sold it to a scrap yard. The incident occurred on Bonner Lake Road, according to a police report. Two men went to the property and told the vehicle owner they were there to repossess two vehicles, a 1985 Ford truck and a 1991 Buick car.
