More options for boys of summer
American Legion to field a junior team for age 17 and under
      There's another attractive option for the proverbial boys of summer. American Legion Post 109 will field a junior team for players 17 and under (born on or after Jan. 1, 1991), longtime Post 109 Athletic Director Jerry Wallace announced on Tuesday.

Indians rally for pair of key wins
      The Gaffney High baseball team had a big task on Monday and Tuesday: beat Byrnes and Mauldin to keep its playoff hopes alive. The Indians accomplished the task in dramatic fashion. Bobby Jackson was huge in Gaffney's comefrom behind 4-3 victory over visiting Byrnes on Monday. Jackson struck out eight and allowed four hits to earn the win.

      Chamber golf tourney slated for April 19 The 2008 Annual Member Golf Tournament, sponsored by the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, will be held Friday, April 18, at Cherokee National Golf Club. Registration and lunch will begin at 11 a.m. with lunch catered by Fatz. Shotgun start is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. using a Captain's Choice format.

Eagles slam Blacksburg
      The Blacksburg High baseball team will have to wait a little longer to learn if it has qualified for postseason play. The Wildcats (6-5 in the region) missed a chance to wrap up the fourth playoff spot in Region II-A with a 12-2 loss at Chesnee on Tuesday. Blacksburg will earn a playoff berth if Chapman beats Woodruff today.

Tiger to miss month after knee surgery
      Tiger Woods had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Tuesday to repair cartilage damage, his second operation in five years on the same knee. He is expected to miss at least a month while he recovers. The surgery, announced on his Web site, came two days after Woods finished three shots behind Trevor Immelman in the Masters.

Olsen, Marlins blank Braves
      Scott Olsen pitched seven sharp innings of five-hit ball, leading the Florida Marlins to a 4-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night. Olsen (2-0) struck out three and did not walk a batter. He threw 84 pitches, 62 for strikes.
