Eagles slam Blacksburg

By LARRY HILLIARD Ledger Sports Editor larry@gaffneyledger.com

The Blacksburg High baseball team will have to wait a little longer to learn if it has qualified for postseason play.

The Wildcats (6-5 in the region) missed a chance to wrap up the fourth playoff spot in Region II-A with a 12-2 loss at Chesnee on Tuesday. Blacksburg will earn a playoff berth if Chapman beats Woodruff today.

Blacksburg ace Dustin Byars took on the loss against Chesnee.

The Wildcats were still in the game on Tuesday before the Eagles took charge in the fifth inning.

"We made poor defensive decisions and we weren't aggressive at the plate," Blacksburg coach Toby Elliott said. "The wheels just came off for us."

Blacksburg will finish the regular season at Whitmire on Friday.
