WHAT'S UP

Fund raiser

There will be a yard sale for old yearbooks at Gaffney High on Saturday, April 19, from 2-4 p.m. There will be a table in the front of the school, under the covered walkway. This event is open to the community. There are books from years 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007. Prices range from $5 to $15 for each book. Books will be sold on a firstcome, first-serve basis.

The NAACP Woman of the Year committee will have a fish and hot dog sale Saturday, April 19, from 11 a.m. until at the home of W.C. and Jessie Mae Manning, 103 Lincoln Drive. Fish and hot dog plates will include baked beans, slaw, dessert and soda. Fish plates are $6 and hot dog plates $5. Hot dogs and fish sandwiches may be purchased as well. All proceeds will go to the Woman of the Year campaign.

Festivals

The Village School of Gaffney will have a Spring Festival Saturday, April 19, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Cherokee County Museum . Admission is $5 for children for games and adults are free.

Church news

Draytonville Baptist Church will have a Relay for Life singing Friday, April 18, at 7 p.m. A quartet from Blacksburg, Sylvia Swayngim, an ensemble from Temple Baptist and a youth group from Calvary Baptist will be guests. Cost is $5 and all donations will go to Relay for Life.

The Thickety Mountain Brotherhood Ministry will have a prayer breakfast Saturday, April 19, at 9 a.m. at the Thickety Mountain Association Building. Bethel, Concord and Ebenezer Baptist churches are in charge.

The Thickety Mountain Baptist Brotherhood Ministry will have its annual kick off program Saturday, April 19, at 6 p.m. at Philadelphia Baptist Church. Minister Vincent Wilkins, associate minister of Bethel Baptist, will be guest lecturer and the message will be brought by the Rev. Danny Burnside, pastor of Philadelphia Baptist.

Bethany Baptist Church, 215 Wilkinsville Hwy., will celebrate youth day Sunday, April 20, at 11 a.m. Youths will lead the music, welcome members and visitors, lead in prayer for the sick and take up the offering. There will also be a children's message and special music. Two of the youths will give their testimonies and a special presentation. The service will conclude with the youth Cross Point team in an interpretive stick drama presentation to the song, "This Blood."

The YWA's of Bethel Baptist Church will sponsor a Spa Day on Saturday, April 19, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. in the church annex. General admission is $10. There will be a licensed massage therapist on hand. Everyone is invited to come experience mini spa treatment, yoga, meditation, health and wellness. There will be good food, spiritual enlightenment and relaxation.

Eastside Baptist Church, 1284 E. Cherokee St., Blacksburg, will host its third Saturday night singing Saturday, April 19, at 7. Guests will be the Master's Singers, Zion Hill, Mark Summit Family and The Hamptons.

The new pastor at Mikes Creek Missionary Baptist Church will be teaching on gifts of the spirit, depression and more in a community outreach program Tuesday, April 22, at 7 p.m. An old-fashioned Bible study and prayer meeting will be held each Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The SWAT Ministry (Stand With Authority Triumphantly) of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church invites the public to "Armor- Up" with them on Sunday, April 20, at 3 p.m.

A multi-family yard sale will be held Saturday, April 19, at Broad River Baptist Church, 419 W. Cherokee St., Blacksburg. There will be baby clothes, household items, plus size women's clothes and much more.

Lady Evelyn Strong and the Women Ministry of Miraculous Healing and Prophetic Ministries, Senior Pastor Bishop Marcus Strong of Ellenboro N.C., will present "Women of Excellence Conference 2008 - God is Doing a New Thing" April 24-26 at 7 p.m. Speaker will be Bishop Pamela Spence, World Harvest Fellowship International, Durham, N.C. Guest Psalmist will be Elise Nicole Lewis, Washington, D.C. On April 26 there will be a special healing clinic at noon given by Spence. For more information, contact 828-453-0968.
