Moss names BHS coaching staff

Blacksburg High football coach Mickey Moss has almost completed his coaching staff.

Moss spent the past four seasons as Wren head football coach before he accepted a job in late February to return to his alma mater.

Moss is bringing two assistants from his staff at Wren to help implement his offensive and defensive systems.

Drew Chisholm will be the Blacksburg offensive line coach. Tony Sullivan will serve as the team's defensive coordinator.

"Drew is an excellent offensive line coach. He will do a great job," Moss said. "Tony Sullivan was the defensive coordinator at North Greenville College before he joined my staff at Wren. He will bring a lot of fire and energy to coaching defense. They know our system and will make it easier for us to put our basic offensive and defensive package in place. They understand what we are trying to do and will be able to help teach our players."

Blacksburg will hold spring football practice May 12-23.

Moss said he plans to install a two back offense and will run a 4-3 defensive scheme. Returning assistant coaches from previous head coach Robbie Blanton's staff include Coby Peeler, Mitch Rice, Josh Batchler, Tyrone McGill, Toby Elliott and Daryl Sanders.

There are plans to add one more assistant coach to the staff, Moss said.

"I am very appreciative to superintendent Dr. Bill James and (Blacksburg High Principal) Jim Touchberry. They have both worked very hard to help us get the staff together."

Moss compiled a 14-30 overall record at Wren, a five win improvement over the four seasons prior to his arrival.

The Hurricanes beat Easley 51-7 in his last game for the program's first Region 1-AAAA win since defeating Laurens in 2004. Wren returns 74 of 84 players this fall.

At Blacksburg, Moss said he plans to continue the eighth grade team and will coach players in grades 9-12 together.

"We will take a look at the talent level this spring and see where players can best help us at different positions," Moss said.
