Downtown movie theater to become home for live performances

By SCOTT POWELL Ledger Staff Writer spowell@gaffneyledger.com

Limestone College students are working to turn the Capri Theater into a live performance venue.

While movies will still be shown, Capri Theatre owners Clyde and Mary Hudson will allow their 200-seat theater to be used for entertainment events.

College students and local artists are invited to participate in a talent show April 24 at 7:30 p.m. said Chris Darwin, a Limestone College business major who is helping organize the event. There are time slots available for people to perform short plays, comedy routines and live music.

Admission is $3. Kids 6 and under are free.

The talent show is the first of several events Limestone College students plan to hold in the Capri Theatre.

"We want to hold programs on a frequent basis at the Capri Theatre so there will be another creative outlet for artists in Cherokee County," Darwin said.

Future activities planned for the venue include bluegrass music, a rock music festival, musical theater, and one-act play productions, Darwin said.

Limestone College's Students in Free Enterprise student business organization will be involved in organizing events at the Capri Theatre this fall.

For now, Darwin said he is working with students to schedule a few performances before the spring semester ends in early May.

"We want to get Limestone College students and everyone in the community involved in making the Capri Theatre a place where people can come show their talent," Darwin said.

Anyone interested in performing in the April 24 talent show should call (864) 761- 7246 or 489-4691 for more information.
