Lady Saints capture tourney title

The Limestone College Lady Saints lacrosse team won the 2008 Conference Carolinas tournament with a 9-4 victory against Belmont Abbey in the championship final on Sunday afternoon at Saints Field.

The No. 2-ranked Lady Saints climb to 15-1.

Belmont Abbey led 3-1 lead with 13 minutes left in the first half, but Limestone scored three goals in the remaining minutes for a narrow 4-3 lead at halftime. The Lady Saints outscored the Abbey 5-1 in the second period to seize control of the contest.

Limestone outshot the Crusaders 23-17.

Lady Saint goalkeeper Erin Cavanaugh led Limestone with three caused turnovers and five ground balls.

Katie Ilott scored four goals, while Lauryn Wise tallied a hat trick.

Shannon Farden and Laurie Jordan scored two goals apiece for the Belmont Abbey.
