STADIUM UPDATE
Project should be finished by July 24
The Gaffney High School football stadium is expected to be completed July 24.
School trustees were given a written progress report on the $8.4 million, 8,000-seat stadium at Monday's board meeting. Trustees did not discuss the information in detail from the Southern Management report during the meeting.
Southern Management senior project manager Jim Britton noted contractor Melloul Blamey has made significant progress on the stadium.
"The project, as a whole, is behind the original July 10th completion date, mainly due to inclement weather, but the contractor continues to push hard to complete the project as soon as possible," Britton wrote in his report.
The contractor has installed bleachers on the visitor's side and completed 75 percent of the home bleachers, according to the report. The bleachers are scheduled to be completed in two weeks.
Stadium lights and a giant electronic scoreboard are scheduled to be installed in early May. All concrete work has been done except for one pier and the foundation for the tunnel.
"Grading is almost complete," Britton wrote. "Once all masonry is finished, the final grading can take place followed by the grassing and landscaping."
Sossamon Construction has paved a 300-space overflow parking lot that will double as parking for Gaffney High and athletic events. State-required road improvements are done.
A fence is being installed around the parking lot, according to the report. A final inspection will be done by the state once the fence is finished this week.
The Gaffney High track is scheduled for completion June 1.
Here is a status report on how work is progressing in other areas of the stadium:

- Home team halftime house: The foundation and concrete slab have been installed. Masonry work will begin next week and will take about two weeks to finish.
