Church news

The Shady Grove Baptist Church School Department will have a Church School workshop for teachers, church school staff members, deacons and interested individuals on Wednesday, April 30, from 5:30- 7 p.m. The presenter will be Dr. Mary K. Jones. Light refreshments will be served. The regular Wednesday night Bible study will be held from 7- 8 p.m. Rev. Byers, pastor, will prepare a light meal. The public is invited to attend.

The Women's Ministry of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church will have its annual tea on Saturday, April 26, at 10 a.m. A continental breakfast will be served from 8:45-9:45 a.m. The topic of the program is "At The Well." Speakers will be Evangelist Cherella Lee of Bountiful Blessing Temple of Deliverance, Roebuck, and Minister Oveda Miller of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Charlotte, A $5 donation is requested.

The Shady Grove Baptist Church Youth Choir will celebrate its 18th anniversary with a special praise program Sunday, April 27, at 4 p.m Other local choirs will be on program. The public is invited to attend.

Mikes Creek Missionary Baptist Church will have a women's conference Saturday, April 26. Breakfast will be served at 8:30 a.m. and lunch will also be served. Cost is $10 for adults and $8 for teens.

Metropolitan AME Zion Church will have a class leaders program Sunday, April 27, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Antoinette Gardner, associate minister of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, will be the guest speaker.

The senior citizens of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church will sponsor their annual senior citizens program Sunday, April 27. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Mills McHam, pastor of Green Bethel Baptist Church, Gaffney.

The Pastor's Aide Ministry of Mt Sinai Missionary Baptist Church will sponsor a Rainbow Tea on Saturday, May 3, at 6 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club of Cherokee County, 201 Pecan St. Tickets are $10 and the public is invited.

Class No. 4 of Trinity AME zion Church, 109 S. Academy St., Blacksburg, will sponsor its annual fellowship program on Sunday, April 27, at 3 p.m. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Dennis Rector, pastor of Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Gaffney.

Gospel concerts

The Lewis Family of Lincolnton, Ga., will perform their 39th annual concert at Ellenboro Elementary School on Sunday, April 27, at 2:30 p.m. The Lewis Family are winners of many Dove awards, 2005 inductees into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and 2006 inductees into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Honor. Admission is $8 for adults in advance or $10 at the door; children 6-12, $2 advance and at door; under 6 are free. Advance tickets may be obtained by calling 828-453- 7590. Proceeds from the concert will go to Hospice of Rutherford County.

Nominations are now being accepted for qualified veterans for induction into the Cherokee County Hall of Bravery.

The annual American Legion Post 109 program recognizes veterans who have exhibited outstanding valor during his or her service to this country while in the military. Applications should be accompanied with official documentation verifying any heroic act(s).

Persons being accepted into the Hall of Bravery will be presented at the annual Memorial Day ceremony May 26, which is sponsored by the Cherokee County Veterans Council.
