Police investigating school break-in Gaffney Police are investigating yet another break-in at a Cherokee County School District school building that apparently was targeted twice in the same evening. At about 7:30 p.m. Monday, police responded to a security alarm at the Limestone Learning Center on Leadmine Street and soon discovered several open doors and a broken office door knob inside the building. A Dell laptop computer was missing from one office and the burglar(s) knocked a security camera from a mount, according to a police report. Police said they couldn't pinpoint the point of entry, though a latch on one window was loose. About an hour later, police were alerted to a second alarm at the same school. They surrounded the building and sent a K-9 officer and others inside to clear the building. This time, police said they found a closet had been broken into and an undetermined amount of snack foods was missing. The point of entry was no mystery during the second call, as the window previously noted to have a loose latch was pulled out. Limestone Learning Center was the target of a break-in the previous weekend while students were on spring break. In the past two weeks, other break-ins occurred at Mary Bramlett Elementary and Ewing Middle School. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office found a stolen vehicle Monday in a wooded area off Pacolet Highway. The 2002 Mitsubishi Montero was reported stolen Saturday from Winchester Drive in Gaffney. The vehicle had been valued at $10,000. A $1,500 air conditioning unit was reported stolen from an Oak Ridge Road mobile home Saturday. According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone took the unit sometime between Thursday night and Saturday afternoon. The mobile home was vacant at the time of the theft. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said more than $1,200 in damage was caused by a thief or thieves who pried open a soda machine at Cowpens Battleground National Park last weekend. Sometime between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, someone broke into a Coca-Cola soda machine, causing about $1,000 in damage and also spray painted over the lens of a security camera, causing another $200 in damage. |
