WHAT'S UP

Lifeguard training

An American Red Cross lifeguard training course will be held over the Memorial Day weekend, May 23-26. Participants must be at least 15 years old and must be very good swimmers. The $100 registration fee must be paid by May 15. Call Boyd at 864-489-2563 for details.

Fund raisers

A big multi family yard sale will be held Saturday, May 3, beginning at 7 a.m. at 2442 Gaffney Hwy., corner of Hwy. 150-S and Camps Creek Chruch Road. All proceeds go to the Arizona Mission Team to build a church on the Apache Indian Reservation in McNary, Ariz.

Church news

The Shady Grove Baptist Church School Department will have a Church School workshop for teachers, church school staff members, deacons and interested individuals Wednesday, April 30, from 5:30-7 p.m. The presenter will be Dr. Mary K. Jones. Light refreshments will be served. The regular Wednesday night Bible study will be held from 7-8 p.m. Rev. Byers, pastor, will prepare a light meal. The public is invited to attend.

The Pastor's Aide Ministry of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church will sponsor a Rainbow Tea on Saturday, May 3, at 6 p.m. The event will be held at the Boys and Girls Club of Cherokee County, 201 Pecan St. Tickets are $10 and the public is invited to attend.

Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate the third pastoral anniversary of the Rev. C.A. Wallace on Sunday, May 4 at 4 p.m. Speaker will be the Rev. Phillip Baldwin, pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Simpsonville. Public invited.

Special events

Blacksburg, CKC, Buffalo and Antioch fire departments will sponsor a Family Fun Day on Saturday, May 10, from 12-4 p.m. at the Blacksburg Volunteer Fire Department. Visitors will enjoy free hot dogs, chips and drinks. A 911 simulator, fire trucks, police cars, ambulances and a smoke house will be on display and there will be free prizes for children along with a drawing for a girl's and boy's bicycle at 3 p.m. (must be present to win). Fireworks, balloon animals, fire clowns and more will also be part of the day.
