A Dollar General store will be built on this site on Hwy. 11 at Old Post Road. A Dollar General store will be built on this site on Hwy. 11 at Old Post Road. The nation's largest smallbox discount retailer just got bigger.

Site plans submitted to the Cherokee County Building Department show Woodruffbased Patton Development Co. will build a 9,014-squarefoot Dollar General store on Chesnee Highway near Old Post Road. Dollar General bills itself as the largest small-box discount retailer in the country.

Grading will begin on the site next week and the store should open in late summer, said Tab Patton, president of Patton Development Co.

Patton said this will be his fourth Dollar General Store. He owns the buildings and leases them to the discount retailer, he said.

Patton said he paid $217,000 for the 1.75-acre parcel. The parcel was owned by Roger Shiflett and Rickey Ruppe.

Patton said the stores typically employ eight to 10 workers.

Patton added he's attempting to acquire property at Hwy. 105 and 29 for another Dollar General store.
