Drug charges made after officer responds to report of unattended child
A 22-year-old Burnt Gin Road man was charged with drug offenses and breaking arrest after Gaffney police responded to a report of an unattended child in a car Saturday afternoon on Brookside Drive.
While investigating the unattended child report, Officer Ron Anderson wrote in a report that Brandon Lee Ledford, 22, along with another male and a female approached the vehicle. During a subsequent patdown, the officers said Ledford tried to run away when asked about a bulge in his pocket. During his ensuing attempts to place Ledford in handcuffs, the officer said Ledford reached into his pocket and threw something behind them, which the female in the group picked up and hid. The officer said he then saw the third person in the group, Kip Allen Cooper, 28, of Forest City, N.C., take something out of his front pocket and place it in their vehicle. The officer said he pulled out his duty weapon to secure the scene and placed all three in investigative custody.
Anderson determined the woman picked up a glassine bag of suspected marijuana and that Cooper had placed a handgun in the car. Police seized $1,725 in cash, 45.7 grams of suspected marijuana and a .380 caliber pistol during the incident.
A North Logan Street woman awoke early Tuesday to find a burglar standing in her bedroom.
According to a report at the Gaffney Police Department, the woman was awakened from her sleep at about 3:40 a.m. Tuesday and saw a black male wearing a black shirt standing in her bedroom doorway. She told police the man shut the bedroom door and she responded by locking the door and calling 911.
When police arrived they found the woman and her family still locked in her bedroom. Police said there were signs of forced entry but nothing appeared to be missing from the home.
A Monday evening traffic stop resulted in the deployment of a Taser.
According to a report from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the incident began Monday on Cherokee Avenue when a deputy attempted to stop the driver of a green Isuzu Rodeo for a traffic violation. The officer claimed in a report the driver, Eric Clayton Bryson, 23, of Victory Trail Road, refused to stop for the officer's blue lights and sirens. After a brief chase, the officer alleged Bryson and a passenger, Robert Eugene Moseley, 24, of Old Chester Road, fled on foot.
Both were apprehended a short time later and a supplemental police report states an officer used a Taser on Bryson to execute the arrest. Bryson was charged with driving under the influence, failure to stop and an open container violation while Moseley was cited with an open container violation, according to the report.
A Gaffney woman is out $700 and several puppies after a puppy buyer's check bounced and his telephone number turned out to be bogus, according to a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.
The woman told police she sold puppies to a Spartanburg man April 27. When she tried to deposit his check, she was told there was no money in the account. Police said the woman told them she tried to call the man at the number he provided but the people who answered the phone did not know him.
A metal thief apparently targeted a cell phone tower in Blacksburg, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.
Sometime between Feb. 23 and April 28, an unknown person cut wires and stole grounding bars from a SunCom Wireless cell phone tower on Gibbons Road. Theft and damage losses are estimated at $320.
A Gaffney man reported to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office that someone stole a handgun from his truck.
The theft, reported by an Old Georgia Highway man, occurred sometime between March 28 and April 28. The weapon, a .40-caliber Glock Model 22 pistol, is valued at $400.
The Gaffney Police Department is investigating an April 25 incident in which someone fired a shot that struck an Elm Street home.
According to an incident report, a witness was sitting on a porch when she saw an unidentified man shoot at another person. The bullet struck a house in the 400 block of the street. Police said they found a hole in the home's siding, but could not find the bullet. The damage is estimated at $100.
A Cadillac parked on Camellia Circle was struck by a bullet early Saturday morning, according to the Gaffney Police Department.
The owner of the 2007 Cadillac CTS told police she heard gunfire between 4 a.m. and 4:15 a.m. Saturday and something hit her vehicle. Police said they noticed a dent on the car's front fender, but saw no bullet hole. When the car was moved, a small caliber bullet was found underneath. The bullet was placed into evidence. The car sustained less than $500 damage.
Two 22-year-old Blacksburg men claim they were assaulted outside the Starmax Entertainment Complex last Friday night.
According to an incident report at the Gaffney Police Department, both men were outside the building when one heard a racial slur directed at his friend, who is black. Believing they were going to fight, one of the victims said he tried to break it up. While both of the men said they could not remember much of what happened next, they provided police with a list of witnesses who said several white males ganged up on the two Blacksburg men, beating and kicking them. One of the victims sustained a concussion and both sustained scrapes and bruises.
A South Oliver Street apartment was forcibly entered last Friday by a burglar but nothing appeared to be stolen, according to a report at the Gaffney Police Department.
The break-in occurred sometime between 2:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m, police said. An unknown person kicked in the back door and ransacked the closets in the apartment.
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating a Saturday evening incident in which a Darby Road man was assaulted with a shovel and a broomstick.
According to police, the assault occurred on Kraft Street at about 6:30 p.m., leaving the Darby Road man with a large laceration over his eye. Police were told one of the suspects hit the victim in the head with a shovel while the second suspect hit the victim in the arm with a broomstick. Both the shovel and broomstick were found and taken into evidence. The victim declined to go to the hospital. No arrests had been reported as of Tuesday.
