Teacher arrested

A Gaffney High School teacher has been placed on paid administrative leave following a traffic stop Tuesday afternoon during which she was arrested for driving under the influence.

District officials didn't know many details about the traffic stop but were informed of the incident involving teacher Ann Shirley late Tuesday.

"I don't really know what happened," said Andy Jones, assistant superintendent for administrate services.

Jones said placing someone on administrative leave is automatic when charges are filed. The district will be discussing the incident with its legal counsel, he said.

A police report about the incident was not immediately available.
