United Way raises $210,000

United Way of the Piedmont announced today that Cherokee County raised more than $210,000 for the community over the past six months.

Nineteen companies participated in workplace campaigns, many of them for the first time.

"The United Way staff worked with key employees to provide information on the United Way and their efforts in the community. This was the first time in many years we had this type of involvement and education and our employees really appreciated it. They in turn communicated to their team mates with much enthusiasm and vigor that resulted in a very strong year of contributions for the United Way. The enthusiasm and professionalism of the entire United Way of the Piedmont staff has substantially increased the pledges and contributions to this years campaign for Cherokee County. We are truly fortunate to have joined forces with the United Way of the Piedmont," stated Pat Emrich, plant manager of the Nestle Prepared Foods Company.

"We couldn't be more excited," stated Kathy Dunleavy, president and CEO of United Way of the Piedmont.

Companies participating in workplace campaigns include American Community Bank, AT&T, Bank of America, BIC Corporation, Broad River Electric Co-Op, City of Gaffney, Duke Energy, First Piedmont Federal Savings & Loan, Freightliner, Hamrick Mills, Nestle, Palmetto Bank, Piedmont Natural Gas, Sanders Brothers, SunTrust, Timken, Upstate Carolina Medical Center, UPS Freight and Wachovia.
