Voter registration for June 10 primary elections closes May 10

2008-04-30 / Local News

Voter registration for the primary elections to be held June 10, 2008, will close Saturday, May 10. In order to vote, you must be registered at least 30 days prior to any election, according to South Carolina election law.

If you are already registered but need to make a change of address, visit the Voter Registration office to change your address so that you can be placed in your proper voting precinct before the May 10 deadline.

All citizens who are eligible to vote by absentee ballot and would like to have their ballot mailed to them may call or visit the Voter Registration office at any time during the calendar year of an election to request an Application for Absentee Ballot. A separate application must be completed by the voter for each election in which the voter wishes to vote absentee.

After the voter's application is approved, Voter Registration will process the application and mail a ballot, along with instructions, to the voter. If applying by mail, Voter Registration must receive your application no later than 5 p.m. four days prior to the election. All absentee ballots must be received no later than 5 p.m. the day before the actual election.

Voters who need their ballot mailed to them are encouraged to contact Voter Registration as soon as possible since the process can take up to two weeks.

The Voter Registration office is located at 1434 N. Limestone St., inside Peachtree Centre (first floor, Room 1008). Current office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. The office will also be open Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m. until noon. The hone number is 487-2563.
