Gaffney stars named to all-star teams

Golfer Cayci Ruppe was among three GHS students to be selected to play in all-star games. Golfer Cayci Ruppe was among three GHS students to be selected to play in all-star games. And now batting second for the North All-Stars, Gaffney's Dylan Jolley.

That was a sentence Jolley never thought he'd hear.

"It was a real big shock," said Jolley, who was selected to the North all-star team.

The North-South All-Star games will be played June 23-24 at Myrtle Beach.

"This is a great feeling," Jolley said. "I had no idea. I remember the players getting chosen for the game and thinking that they are great players. Now, I'm one of them."

A year ago, Jolley was a solid everyday player for the Indians. But this year, Jolley blossomed into one of the best players in the state.

"He had a great senior year," Gaffney coach Tom Owens said. "He had probably as good a season as anybody I've coached."

Jolley, who proved his versatility by moving from his accustomed outfield slot to second base to shore up a question mark, hit .470 with three homers and 19 RBIs. He also had three triples and eight doubles.

Two more Gaffney High stars were selected to play in their respective sport's all-star games. Megan Standridge will play in the North-South All-Star softball game.

"It's a big honor to be chosen," said Gaffney coach Kelly Ellis, who will serve as an assistant coach on the North staff.

Gaffney High golfer Cayci Ruppe will compete as a North All- Star at Wild Wing Plantation at Quail Creek Golf Club on May 16- 18.

Ruppe has signed a grant-in-aid with the University of South Carolina.
