GHS student a national merit scholar
Gaffney High senior Jacob Waters got the news he was hoping for Thursday when he received a national merit scholarship. Waters is one of 19 public high school seniors in South Carolina to receive a $2,500 national merit scholarship award this year. The movie "Walker Payne" is still awaiting a release date nearly three years after being filmed in Gaffney. A crew from Persistent Entertainment in California filmed many scenes for the 1950s era movie inside Mabry's Restaurant on Birnie Street in Gaffney. The restaurant was renamed The Atomic Diner for the film. More...

County will likely see another tax increase

Cherokee County taxpayers should brace themselves for another tax increase in the proposed county budget. Last year, Cherokee County Council approved a 2.29-mill increase for county operations and a 1.8-mill increase to cover the county's debt service. Those increases added $16 a year in taxes on a home valued at $100,000. More...
