$1.35 million addition to Goucher Elementary completed; awaiting board inspection
      A 6-classroom addition to Goucher Elementary School will be ready for a final inspection by school board members in mid-May. Contractor Sossamon Construction is currently correcting a few items before an occupancy permit is issued by the state Office of School Facilities, said Jim Britton, senior project manager for Southern Management.

Driver of stolen vehicle wrecks, flees on foot
      The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported the recovery of a stolen vehicle following a chase that ended in a crash late Thursday. According to an incident report, an officer attempted to stop a 2002 Pontiac at about 10:20 p.m. and upon the activation of his blue lights and sirens the driver failed to stop.

Schools locked down while police search for suspect
      Cherokee County Sheriff's Deputies continually circled a several square mile area around the Briar Creek subdivision Friday as a tracking team aided by bloodhounds searched from within for a man who reportedly fired gunshots into a trash container.

City council will discuss property sale
      A private company wants to take some real estate off the city's hands. Gaffney City Council will hear a report today from administrator James Taylor concerning the possible sale of city property. Sources close to the situation said the property to be discussed is the city incinerator site.

Teen arrested for discharging firearm in city
      The Gaffney Police Department reported the arrest of an 18-year-old man Wednesday evening for discharging a firearm within city limits and a violation of South Carolina gun laws.

Truck rolls into cruiser
      A Cherokee County Sheriff's Office deputy was treated and released from Upstate Carolina Medical Center early Monday following a pursuit on Goldmine Road that ended with a truck rolling into a police cruiser. Deputy Brian Mullinax was pinned in his car door during the collision, according to Lance Cpl.

Sheriff warns of con artists
      Sheriff Bill Blanton is warning area residents that traveling con artists may once again be back in town. A seasonal occurrence, Blanton said the traveling group has been targeting Cherokee County each spring, showing up at homes and trying to sell unsolicited services such as house painting, roof work and driveway repairs.

Mortgage loan program announced for teachers
      Cherokee County teachers could get low-interest home loans and help with down payments to purchase their first homes. The $20 million home ownership program is a joint venture by the South Carolina State Housing Authority and the state Department of Education.

     FRIDAY COLLISION - Gaffney Fire Department personnel had to use a hydraulic cutting device to extricate a man from one of two vehicles involved in a collision Friday afternoon. The accident, involving a Pontiac sedan and a Chevrolet sedan, occurred on East Buford Street near Laurel Street. The Gaffney Police Department couldn't provide details on the wreck Friday afternoon and an accident report could not be obtained over the weekend.
