'Art in the Park' set for Saturday in downtown Gaffney

The Cherokee County Alliance of Visual Artists are hoping the following activities will entice you to come downtown and enjoy the fun of the second annual "Art in the Park" to be held in historic downtown Gaffney on Saturday, May 10th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Artwork of all media will be on display in the City Park and at the Michael Gaffney Cabin on Limestone Street. Everyone is invited to enter, professional artists, Cherokee County school student artists, and college art students. A small registration fee of $10.00 will be charged for non-CAVA members, $5.00 for CAVA members and no fee for students within the Cherokee County School District.

Registration forms are available at the Gaffney Visitors Center/CAVA Art Gallery at 301 N. Limestone Street in Gaffney or by contacting Cindy Wilson at (864) 489-9560, (864) 489-9119 or (864) 487-6244 also by email request at jaw1942@bellsouth. net; artists may also register the morning of the event between 8:30 a.m. - 9:45 a.m.

Artists and crafters are encouraged to set up a table to show and sell their artwork in addition to the juried work. The City of Gaffney charges a $5.00 vendor fee; which will be added to the $10.00 registration fee for entires other than CAVA members. So bring your tables, your tents and take this opportunity to network with other artists and display your talents to the citizens of Gaffney…..get your business cards ready and join us for fun and profit!

In addition to the artwork, enjoy the performance of the jazz band, the Calvin Edwards Trio! A native of Kings Mountain, Calvin Edwards has been playing guitar since the age of six and at the age of 17 joined the famous Five Blind Boys of Alabama gospel group. He later moved to Los Angeles where he joined his brother's band……….the Jett Edwards Band and produced three albums as a solo artist. Calvin is an international artist, accomplished musician, vocalist, songwriter and producer currently traveling and performing. He has produced jazz shows in Okinawa, Tokyo, at various military installations in Japan and has performed at the Tokyo Namm show. Edwards currently has a number of records available, including That's It, Just Swing, Let It Flow and So What, Don't Forget.
