Driver of stolen vehicle wrecks, flees on foot

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported the recovery of a stolen vehicle following a chase that ended in a crash late Thursday.

According to an incident report, an officer attempted to stop a 2002 Pontiac at about 10:20 p.m. and upon the activation of his blue lights and sirens the driver failed to stop. The driver of the Pontiac wrecked at the Pacolet Highway and Fortenberry Road intersection and fled on foot. Police said a records check indicates the car, which belongs to a Spartanburg woman, was stolen. The vehicle is valued at about $6,000.

The incident remains under investigation.

A home being renovated on Old Georgia Highway was targeted by a burglar recently.

Between April 24 and April 28, someone broke into the basement of the home in the 2500 block and busted a basement door. Police said the thief or thieves stole about $600 in tools and caused about $80 in damage.

A picket fence in Gaffney sustained about $75 in damages when vandals struck Thursday afternoon.

According to a report from Gaffney Police Department, someone pulled about eight slats from the fence which borders Overbrook Drive. The property owner told police Thursday's incident wasn't the first time the fence had been targeted.

The Gaffney Police Department reported the theft of a refrigerator and tools from a North Limestone Street home that's undergoing renovations.

The burglary and thefts occurred sometime between April 27 and Thursday afternoon. Police said someone kicked open the door to the home and took about $200 in tools from the interior. The refrigerator, valued at $400, was taken from the home's porch. Damage is estimated at $1,000.

The Gaffney Police Department reported the arrest of a man wanted by Florida authorities.

Joseph G. Fine Jr., 65, of Beltline Road, was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon while police were investigating another matter and learned Fine was wanted in Florida. Police reported Fine was wanted for robbery with a deadly weapon. Details of the allegations against Fine could not be immediately obtained from Florida authorities Friday.

The Gaffney Police Department filed an arrest warrant against a 43-year-old man for the alleged possession of the drug "ice."

In an incident report, Sgt. Christy Poole claimed Gregory Darryl Wilkie, of Star Ridge Road, was in possession of a crystal substance weighing less than a gram Tuesday afternoon on Montgomery Street.

A West Buford Street woman's vehicle sustained $500 in damage early Wednesday morning when someone punctured her tires.

According to the Gaffney Police Department, the woman heard "popping" noises outside her apartment but didn't think much of it at the time. The tires were flattened sometime between 12:15 a.m. and 2:30 a.m.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported the arrest of a 37-year-old woman wanted by Texas authorities.

According to an incident report, an officer arrested Dena Rochelle Bronson at a Beech Street residence Tuesday at about 6:30 p.m. after learning she was wanted by Texas and Harris County, Texas, for a probation violation on felony drug charges.
